Science

In kindergarten, we study nine major units in science class:

1. Monarch Butterflies – Our first unit of study is on the life cycle of the Monarch Butterfly. We learn about the four stages in a Monarch Butterfly’s life cycle. We even raise Monarch Butterflies here in our classroom.

2. Trees – In kindergarten, we conduct a year long study of trees! We observe them in every season to help us learn about different types of trees and their structures.

3. Apples – We also study apples and their life cycle. We also do some fun experiments, such as an apple stacking experiment. How many apples do you think you could stack?

4. Pumpkins – Life cycles are a continual theme in kindergarten. We learn about a pumpkin’s life cycle too! We also enjoy carving a pumpkin together.

5. Reindeer – In kindergarten, we study reindeer in the winter. We learn so many fun facts about reindeer! We even make our own reindeer using shapes!

6. Fabric – Another unit of study is Fabric. We learn about different types of fabric and their uses. We also do experiments, such as absorbing and repelling water, tie dying, staining and cleaning fabric, and more!

7. Penguins – We also study the life cycle of penguins and learn facts about different kinds of penguins.

8. Birds – In the spring, we learn about the life cycle of birds, birds as a sign of spring, and types of birds nests.

9. Wood and Paper – Our last unit of study in kindergarten is on Wood and Paper (products of trees). We learn about the process by which wood and paper are made, different types of wood and paper, their uses, things made from wood and paper, and we also perform experiments on the wood and paper related to absorbing and repelling water. We even learn to make particleboard, plywood, recycled paper, and art with wood and paper.
