I am excited to be a high school Social Studies teacher for Fannett-Metal High School. I currently teach Modern American History, United States Government, Sociology, and World History for grades 10-12. In previous years, I have instructed Political Science, Current Events, Civics, and Psychology courses. In addition to a certification in Social Studies 7-12, I am certified to teach grades PreK through 6th and also have an Online Instruction Endorsement from Pennsylvania Department of Education. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (K-6) from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. I earned my teaching certificate for Pennsylvania from Wilson College. I hold a Master of Educational Technology degree and a second master’s degree in Humanities with a concentration in History and Material Culture, both from Wilson College. I am a Microsoft Innovative Educator and a certified Schoology Educator through Texas Computer Education Association. I am an Edpuzzle Certified Coach, as well as a Quizizz Certified user. Additionally, I am an affiliate with the Gilder Lehrman Institute for American History. In addition to my formal credentials, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to take seminar courses in The American Civil War, Native American History, American Presidencies, American Reconstruction, and the American West with nationally renowned historians. Most recently, I was selected to attend a weeklong Gilder Lehrman Institute seminar hosted at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, VA focused on “Fighting America’s Wars: Military Strategy from Civil War through Vietnam.” The U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center in Carlisle, PA is another great resource I utilize to quench my thirst for new learning experiences!
When I’m not in the classroom, I enjoy exploring nature by taking my children and pups on hiking and camping trips, as well as traveling to any spot that strikes an interest, especially National Parks! As a prior military spouse, married to a retired United States Marine for 20 years, I have had the opportunity to travel the United States extensively with my family. Together we share a great love for history and actively seek out places and adventures to learn more about the world around us. My natural curiosity for “days gone by” fuels my ongoing love for learning. Reading, art, dance, music, camping, hiking, and yoga fill my slight and sporadic crevices of free time.
My goal is to instill this love of learning and passion for life into each student that I encounter.
