WHAT TIME IS IT?Feb
The second graders are learning to tell time to the nearest five minutes. They are setting the clock to a time given as a quarter after seven or ten minutes before five. We are learning that when it says minutes after we go clockwise and count by fives. Start at the twelve with zero ad then count by fives as we hop to each number around the clock. When it is more than 30 minutes after, I can read the time two different ways. I can read it as the minutes after the hour or I can read it as the minutes before the next hour. When counting the minutes before the hour, we must start at the twelve with zero and go counterclockwise counting by fives to find the minutes before the next hour. This is new for the second graders, so we are doing lots of hands-on practice using our clocks.
