Ninth Grade Interactive Cultural Experience

May
14

The ninth graders participated in an interactive cultural experience while learning about Cinco de Mayo.  The students learned the history of the event, which is a celebration of the unlikely Mexican victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla.  Due to being outnumbered and not well trained, the Mexican people gained confidence that they would eventually win the entire war.  We then studied the Mexican folk art of Amate Painting and the students created a painting in this vibrant style.  The unit culminated in joining with Music class and Spanish class for a fiesta where the students brought in Mexican style appetizers, enjoyed the paintings and decorations, and even learned some dances!
