Balancing and Weighing in 2nd Grade Science

Second graders have been learning about balancing and weighing in science.  Many second graders remember the challenge of trying to balance when learning to ride a bicycle or when helping a younger sibling learn to walk.  In this unit students will discover that balance is affected by three variables: the amount of mass of an object, the length of the lever arm, and the location of the fulcrum.  Students will have many opportunities to perform simple experiments and to use an equal-arm balance.
